Are you realized?

Once, I asked Chadwick, “Are you realized?” I have put this question to all of the old devotees like Muruganar, Cohen, Osborne, Sadhu Natanananda, Devaraja Mudaliar and others. None of them either said yes or no - all smiled. When I asked him whether he was realized, he did not say yes or no.

Instead, he told me, “I will tell you what happened. After many years of my stay with Bhagavan - four or five years, I committed the mistake of trying to evaluate how much I have progressed spiritually. This is a thing any seeker should not do. I felt that I have not progressed. Many who saw me in Ramanasramam, looked at me like I was a sage or a saint saying, „Oh! He is so fortunate. He is so close to Bhagavan. He meditates so much. He is already in that state.‟

This created a contradiction in me as I personally felt that I was not progressing spiritually. However, having left the material life I could not go back to a worldly life either. I felt caught between the devil and the deep sea. I was sorrow stricken. I ran to Bhagavan‟s hall. He was alone. I told him, „Bhagavan, this is my plight. I am neither here nor there and this causes much sorrow in me.‟ Bhagavan looked at me compassionately and said, „Chadwick, who says all this?‟

Immediately, there was a current like shock in my body and I literally ran to my room, shut the doors and went into a neutral state. I was not bothered whether I was spiritually maturing or whether I would be able to stay in the world. I was in a neutral state of silence. A few days passed like that wherein I was neither happy nor worried.”

The only luxury that Chadwick allowed himself was taking his bath in a bath tub which he had in the verandah of his cottage. One day, shortly after the above incident, something happened unexpectedly. As Chadwick told me later, “I was taking my bath and very honestly Ganesan, I was not in a spiritual state or in a prayerful mood when it suddenly dawned - the „I AM‟!” He experienced it - not just as words. He was so ecstatic that he did not even dry himself. He just wrapped a towel around his waist and ran to the Old Hall from where a few days back he had run away.

Fortunately, this time too, Bhagavan was alone. In this spiritual ecstasy of experiencing the „I AM‟, where there was no Chadwick, just the „I AM‟, he asked Bhagavan, “Bhagavan, is THIS it?” Chadwick recounted, “Bhagavan gave me the most glorious smile, and then confirmed, „Yes, Chadwick, THIS is THAT!‟ I then asked him, „Bhagavan, is it so simple?‟ Bhagavan replied, „Yes it is that simple.‟ Since then, I‟ve never had any doubt.”

Negative Tendencies

Question – The negative tendencies of the humans, such as homicide, treason, theft, disappear when the Presence settles?

M. G. – Get rid of this questioner and you will find out. We love the theoretical aspect of this thing called Awakening. And then we keep speculating about what happens or what will happen.

I ask you, who asks me this question: where is this question arising? Is the nature of this questioner real?

Notice how much our mind speculates about this, uselessness. All this speculation is its attempt to remain attached to concepts, to some kind of belief, to some formula.

Realize your Natural State and find out what remains, if remains. What we have always been saying is that your Real Nature is Love, is Peace, is Happiness.

The way this nature will be expressed in this mechanism, that is its own thing. But there are no formulas. There are no definitions. There are no patterns.

Some, after settling in their Natural State, which here means to rest in their Essential Nature, begin to speak, begin to write, begin to share This in a way or another. Others never open their mouths again. There are no rules for this.

Love your Self in all

CONVERSATIONS WITH ANNAMALAI SWAMI

Love your Self in all

Q: You sometimes say that we should love all people equally; that we should give love to the whole world. For me, love is something that just happens. I cannot manufacture it and give it away. If I feel love for someone, the love flows towards them. If I don't, it doesn't happen and I cant make it happen. How do I learn to love people I hardly know? And when I have learned that, how do I learn to love all the millions of strangers I have never met and will never meet?

AS: You can start with the people you know. Bhagavan taught by example that we should only see good in other people. Virtually all people are a mixture of good and bad. It is very rare to find someone who is wholly good or wholly bad. If you have to come into contact with a lot of people try to make yourself aware of their good points and don't dwell on their bad points. If you see good in people you radiate a harmonious, loving energy which uplifts those who are around you. If you can maintain this habit, this energy will soon turn into a steady flow of love.

Try to be aware at all times that everything you see and perceive is the Self. If you see the Self in other people, your love automatically flows towards them.

You gain nothing by thinking that someone is a bad person. If negative thoughts arise each time you see or think of a particular person, these thoughts will draw you away from the Self. Try to radiate your love equally to all people instead of just a few. Try to feel that the whole world is your Self, your God. Try to see the Self in all people. Spread your love in all directions as an act of worship and surrender, because everything in the world is a manifestation of God.

Self-enquiry

Q: What is the correct way to pursue self-enquiry?

AS: Bhagavan has said: ‘When thoughts arise stop them from developing by enquiring, ‘’To whom is this thought coming?’’ as soon as the thought appears. What does it matter if many thoughts keep coming up? Enquire into their origin or find out who has the thoughts and sooner or later the flow of thoughts will stop’

This is how Self-enquiry should be practiced.

When Bhagavan spoke like this he sometimes used the analogy of a besieged fort. If one systematically closes off all the entrances to such a fort and then picks off the occupants one by one as they try to come out, sooner or later the fort will be empty.

Bhagavan said that we should apply these same tactics to the mind. How to go about doing this? Seal off the entrances and exits to the mind by not reacting to rising thoughts or sense impressions. Don’t let new ideas, judgments, likes, dislikes, ect.

Enter the mind, and don’t let rising thoughts flourish and escape your attention. When you have sealed off the mind in this way, challenge each emerging thought as it appears by asking, ‘where have you come from?’ or ‘who  is the person who is having this thought?’

If you can do this continuously, with full attention, new thoughts will appear momentarily and then disappear. If you can maintain the siege for long enough, a time will come when no more thoughts arise; or if they do, they will only be fleeting, undistracting images on the  periphery of consciousness. In that thought-free state you will begin to experience yourself as consciousness, not as mind or body.

However, if you relax your vigilance even for a few seconds and allow new thoughts to escape and develop unchallenged, the siege will be lifted and the mind will regain some or all of its former strength.

In a real fort the occupants need a continuous supply of food and water to hold out during a siege. When the supplies run out, the occupants must surrender or die.

In the fort of the mind the occupants, which are thoughts, need a thinker to pay attention to them and indulge in them. If the thinker withholds his attention from rising thoughts or challenges them before they have a chance to develop, the thoughts will all die of starvation.

You challenge them by repeatedly asking yourself ‘Who am I?’ Who is the person who is having these thoughts?’ If the challenge is to be effective you must make it before the rising thought has had a chance to develop into a stream of thoughts.

Mind is only a collection of thoughts and the thinker who thinks them. The thinker is the ‘I’-thought, the primal thought which rises from the Self before all others, which identifies with all other thoughts and says, ‘I am this body’.

When you have eradicated all thoughts except for the thinker himself by ceaseless enquiry or by refusing to give them any attention, the ‘I’-thought sinks into the Heart and surrenders, leaving behind it only an awareness of consciousness.

This surrender will only take place when the ‘I’thought has ceased to identify with rising thoughts. While there is still stray thoughts which attract or evade your attention, the ‘I’-thought will always be directing its attention outwards rather than inwards.

The purpose of Self-enquiry is to make the ‘I’-thought move inwards, towards the Self. This will happen automatically as soon as you cease to be interested in any of your rising thoughts.

Trust in existence, express gratitude

Once, Narada, a great Indian sage, was on his way to see God. His meeting with God used to be very interesting as Narada was also a great traveller and full of information about what was happening around the world. In true sense, he was like the first mythological journalist, bringing peoples’ news to God and informing people about what God had to say on certain issues. So while playing God’s hymns on the veena, Narada came across an old saint sitting under a tree.

The old saint told Narada, “Please ask God one question on my behalf. I have made all the effort needed to last me three lifetimes, now how much more is needed? When is my liberation going to happen?” Narada assured him that the next time he meets God he will ask this question.

As he crossed another forest, he came across a young man dancing and playing on his musical instrument —ektara. Just to tease the young fellow, Narada asked him, “Do you have any question for God, would you like to know anything from him?”

The young man behaved as if he had not heard what Narada said. He was totally immersed in his song and dance.

Narada returned after a few days. He told the old saint, “I asked God about you. He said three more lifetimes.” Narada’s reply got the old saint into a rage. He threw away the beads and books saying, “It is absolutely unjust, three lives more. This is not what I expected from God.”

Narada laughed. He then went to see the young man who was still dancing, singing and playing on his ektara. Narada said, “Although you did not have any question for God, I asked him about you. But after seeing the angry reaction of the old saint, I’m scared to to tell you his answer.”

Again, the young man behaved as if he hadn’t heard Narada. He continued with his singing. Finally, gathering some courage, Narada said, “When I asked about you, God said ‘Tell the young man who is singing my prayers that he will have to be born as many times as there are leaves on the tree under which he is dancing.”

Listening to what Narada said, the young man started dancing and singing even more ecstatically. He said, “Don’t tell me, it’s unbelievable, so fast? There are so many trees in the world and so many leaves… only this tree and these many leaves? When you next go to God, give him my gratitude, my thanks.”

And it is mentioned in the epics that the young man became liberated that very moment. Liberation happened under the same tree in the presence of Narada. If totality of trust arises inside, time becomes meaningless. It is not needed. However, if there is no trust, even three-four lifetimes are not enough for liberation.

I AM has sent me to you

I don’t know for you, but for me, since childhood, the word God is a very sweet word to hear: God!

God has always been something very sweet. Christ has always been a word very sweet, and that is what I deal with. When God appeared to Moses on the mountain he said: “Go there and speak!”

Moses questioned: “How can I leave here and get there before the Pharaoh? What am I to say? Imagine, to face the Pharaoh… What am I to say to the Pharaoh?”

Then God told him: “Moses, when you are in front of the Pharaoh say ‘I AM, has sent me to you. I AM has sent me to you’, say just that!

The Whole spreads like an explosion

You deny the Whole, which spreads like an explosion and you do not accept it.

When you don’t accept, you conflict. When you conflict, you suffer.

You are doing all this because “you are important”, “bigger than God”.

The ego is the resistance to what is happening.

The wind is blowing now, and that is like that, it doesn’t matter the amount of thoughts you have about it. This is the fact: the wind is blowing, and this is unthinkable, unsayable, indescribable. The fact that the wind is blowing is what it is.

We speak about the ego as some abstracted thing.

The ego is just an invention, really – a social invention.

The society has created the ego. The society is the ego created by the thought, this imagination of being more than God, of being more that what is presented, to demand more than what life is; pure arrogance...

Talk 596 - About God and Faith

A visitor asked: Sri Bhagavan said last night that God is guiding us. Then why should we make an effort to do anything?

M.: Who asks you to do so? If there was that faith in the guidance of God this question would not have arisen.

D.: The fact is that God guides us. Then what is the use of these instructions to people?

M.: They are for those who seek instructions. If you are firm in your belief in the guidance of God, stick to it, and do not concern yourself with what happens around you. Furthermore, there may be happiness or misery. Be equally indifferent to both and abide in the faith of God. That will be so only when one’s faith is strong that God looks after all of us.

Mr. Chopra asked: “How shall I secure that firm faith?”

M.: Exactly. It is for such as these who want instructions. There are persons who seek freedom from misery. They are told that God guides all and so there need not be any concern about what happens. If they are of the best type they at once believe it and firmly abide by faith in God. But there are others who are not so easily convinced of the truth of the bare statement. They ask: “Who is God? What is His nature? Where is He? How can He be realised?” and so on. In order to satisfy them intellectual discussion is found necessary. Statements are made, their pros and cons are argued, and the truth is thus made clear to the intellect. When the matter is understood intellectually the earnest seeker begins to apply it practically. He argues at every moment, “For whom are these thoughts? Who am I?” and so forth, until he is well-established in the conviction that a Higher Power guides us. That is firmness of faith. Then all his doubts are cleared and he needs no further instructions.

The power before a living Master

The experimenter appears one second after the experience. It is very quickly to claim the experience for itself and say, “it’s mine”, or “it happened to me”, it captures it and stays ruminating there. No experience is unreal in itself, but every experience is unreal for “someone”, for an experimenter.

The joy of being with me is because I bring you to this instant. I don’t put you in an experience to experience it. I put you in the heart of the experiment, but I don’t form an experimenter, I don’t feed or support an experimenter.

It is wonderful to Be, to Be is Happiness. Here, in Satsang, you stop, you let hold of being “someone” demanding something from the world, then, the world disappears as well. The world disappears because you disappear, because you are the one who creates the world. This is the power of being before a living Master: He brings you to this space, that it’s yours, and you recognize yourself in IT, as pure Consciousness, leaving the theory to the practice, the concept to the fact.

The present out of time

When you encounter me, you encounter with the present, but not with the present in time, but with the present out of time. This is not the present between the future and the past, it is the present away from time.
I am the Consciousness, and I am not different from what you ARE. However, you believe in things that I don’t believe. I don’t need to believe in anything to be what I AM. And you believe that you need to believe in something to be what you actually are not, to live, in fact, what it’s not real. There is no Truth in this.
Accept all the prejudice that the though wants to “tell” you, because it will say that you are going to loose this or that. It is just the thought defending itself, protecting itself, protecting an image, a belief, the belief of being “someone”.  It is just the thought saying that “someone” can suffer, and this “someone” is itself, because there is nobody out of it. So embrace, welcome this, that then, you stay free from the fear.

Who Am I ?

Once upon a time, a small wave in the ocean noticed that it was not like the other waves and said:

- How I suffer! I am small and I see bigger and more powerful waves than me! I am actually despicable and ugly, without strength and useless…

Another wave in the ocean heard the little wave and said:

- You suffer because you are not aware that the forms are transitory, and don’t see your original nature. You seek egoistically for that which you are not, and dive into self-piety!

- But – replied the little wave – if I am not really a small wave, what am I?

- To be a wave is temporary and relative. You are not the wave, you are the water!

- Water? And what is water?

- To use words to describe what you are won’t make you comprehend yourself. Contemplate the transience around you, have the courage to recognize this transience in yourself. Your essence is water, and when you finally experience this, you will stop suffering with your egoistic dissatisfaction.

Do not believe you are a “person”

When I invite you to come to me, to listen to this, to be here, to look into my eyes, I invite you to become aware of What you Are!

And You, definitely, are not the body, are not the mind, and don’t need to suffer, to live in this illusion, in this delusion. You were born to be free! You were born to be what you Are: Freedom.

But Freedom is not possible while you are full of beliefs, and the first of it is: “I am the body”, “I need to do something”. In the mind, “to be something”, means to realize something on the outside – it is its nature; by nature it is unsatisfied, unhappy.

The mind’s nature is to be miserable, and misery is a shadow that goes along with it. Until you are free from this illusion, you will continue to suffer, because you will continue to believe you are a “person”.

How can I realize this freedom?

It is normal that the mind still tries to hold something. This is exactly what I call “work”, what is happening to you.

Here, it is just the surrender – the deep trust in your Real Nature – that matters. Let the mind, or what is left of it to keep on its little game of territory search.  Let it do what it knows how to do well, or believes it does.

As Papaji has said: “when you meet the Guru, say with simplicity: Lord, how can I be free? How can I realize this freedom?”  Without this simplicity, any of this is possible.

Simplicity is naturalness. Look at a child, he doesn’t know anything about how to be simple, that is just natural.  This is the Grace’s point. It is all an action of the Divine.

The Guru’s form

Participant: What is this that we feel about the Guru’s form?

Master Gualberto: Everything is part of the same joy, in this unique Love towards everything. The Guru’s form is seen with gratitude. There will be always a tribute of gratitude for this Presence that appears and plays with us as a Guru. Everything is just a Grace’s joke! The Guru also doesn’t see himself as separated from anything around him, but his joy is the same before what appears to him, as Grace, in the form of a disciple.

Deep down, there isn’t one or the other, just this Presence playing in a different form with different forms. The form is never the problem, but the sense of separation.  This is the whole conflict! Forms are beautiful, they are expressions of the One.

Any unhappiness is possible in the form, but in the sense that they are real in their separation, which is only possible in the mind’s illusion. If you can look without the mind, you will be able to enjoy the form, because it is nothing but the Grace in its manifestation. Everything is Beauty, everything is Love, everything is Grace, everything is God!

We have seen around us great sorrow

We have seen around us great sorrow, great pain, great misery.

This is the human life centered in this illusionary identity, that has not been investigated, understood – and from what we haven’t been released from.

This has meant a life in profound confusion, profound disorder, profound suffering, and profound misery.

However, the ones who have been doing work with themselves, have been investigating themselves, the ones who have been going deep, beyond the shallow layer of consciousness

(that is the common men’ consciousness, the men that carries that weight of contradictions, conflicts, day after day, after day)

, those that have gone deeper into this investigation of themselves, that have the engagement, the real interest...

Those that have gone with eagerness towards this direction… They have discovered, and have been telling us that: in our Real Nature, we are essentially perfection, truth, beauty, peace and happiness.

November 22, 2015

There is no way to reach There

Awakening, to realize God, Illumination, any name you give, is not to reach there. This “reaching there” is still just a mind’s projection.

This is the first thing to be understood: there is no way to reach There, because there is no “there”, and no one there to reach anywhere.

In an objective, practical way, what I can tell you is that some work needs to be done. But not a work to look for something, to practice something, to dedicate yourself to philosophy or spirituality. It is a work of investigation of that thing that acts like it is you, but that it is not you, it is not your Real Nature.

The question is if we can be alert – just alert to this internal movement of the conscience, without any effort, without any discipline, without this will to change, to transform what we see in something else, but just look, stay straight with this.

It doesn’t matter the kind of thought and its quality: if it is good, if it is bad, fake or true. This “backstage” that judges, that assesses: “this I like, this I don’t like”… When we are with this direct observation, everything becomes transparent, and the State of Conscience, that is present now, takes over its own place.

November 19, 2015

Everything begins and ends with Grace

In Satsang you don’t exist to do or not do something, because everything begins and ends with Grace. Just remain close, remain inside, with your heart in this, and everything comes naturally.

For some time we’ve stayed, unconsciously, negotiating with this and wanting the thing our own way. Simplicity is needed, or we will remain with our own conclusions of how the thing happens, or should happen. And all this is still a mind’s game, buying time.

All existence is being attracted to evidence this. To some, the thing gets to a point that nothing else can be a distraction anymore. It comes the great moment of God appearing in the shape of a Guru. God does as he wants, always. That is it and there is nothing else to say, not to you, not to others.

The Truth is in the Silence

How many words have been said in all the books? In all the speeches? We wake up in the morning and talk until night, talk and talk… And what is being said? The Truth is in the Silence, in the power of Silence. You want to listen to words, the mind is fed from answers, and that is why you make questions. You want to listen to words, but I don’t have any interest in this.

You don’t come to Satsang to listen to words, but to rest in the silence of the Presence. You come to rest with me in silence, in silence is where all answers are.

Even when I speak, I am speaking about the silence, not about the words.  Silence is the answer. Happiness comes to you by itself… How can words provide that? You remember who you are in Satsang, and why?  Because I allow you the silence. You are into the silence, there is the Joy; that is where Peace and Love become possible.

There is something wrong somewhere

You are here with me now, in Satsang, to unlearn everything you have learned about yourselves.

You don’t know what is Happiness, because you take yourself for something you are not. You give up of what you Are, for something that you are not.

Suffering is a great gift, a great divine Grace, because in it you notice that there is something wrong somewhere. At first, you believe it is outside of this; then you begin to find out that you are inside it.

It is not the world that makes you suffer, that produces suffering. You don’t know you are God, the Consciousness, the Presence, the Self, the Love, the Truth. Your true Nature is Freedom!

November 11, 2015

Do you know what is your single problem?

Do you know what is your single problem?

The idea of an outside world to be lived. Nevertheless, it is inside you. The world outside is an idea of the thought. The mind produces this world and goes in its search. You, getting identified with this, are a slave and will never be free, because everything you do increases your years of prison, in this “jail” of illusion.

For ages you have been in this, like your parents, grandparents and grand grandparents. All human history has been in this for ages. Here, or there, happens that someone pays attention to something outside all this, jumping out of it. So then, they say: “look, he is awake, he has Realized God, he has Realized the Truth.”

You are in Satsang because this is your time to realize This. Nobody is forcing you to suffer, nothing in life forces you to suffer, because you are God, you are Happiness.  This is your True Nature, but it does not have anything to do with your life’s history, but with Life as it IS. Your life’s history – all of it learned from society, from the world, from the parents, from the teachers – it is only repetition from what they have lived, are living and will live.

In India, they call Bhagavan the one who lives with God… It is the Jivamukti, the one who is awake in life. He is the same as you and me: goes to the bathroom, eats, sleeps. Some are married, have a social life, go to birthday parties, go to weddings, and sometimes get divorced and remarry again. It is interesting, it is the same as your life and my life, but they don’t suffer anymore because they don’t identify themselves with the story that the thought tells, that the mind tells.

Happiness

Happiness happens when the mind rests from its search, from its activity, from its movement, in this space called Consciousness, in this space that is God. When the mind, for a few minutes or seconds, gives a break to all desires, because the objective, the target, the purpose, on that moment, is being realized.

So the movement of the mind stops, and the Consciousness flourishes! But soon the mind comes back creating new desires, saying: “I need more fulfillment!” It attributes this realization to itself, and believes that it is in itself that this happiness is being found.  Then, it goes searching for more! It is simply like this! In other words, the search for pleasure, for realization, for happiness is what prevents Happiness, and Real Realization, the Joy of this Real Realization.

Happiness is the nature of Consciousness, is the nature of the Self, and it is not temporary. Temporary is the arrival and exit of the mind. Temporary is the mind’s movement that comes and goes. So, this happiness that comes and goes, presents itself in this form only for this illusion, which is the illusion of the mind in this movement. In your Natural State, you are Happiness!

The thought inside us

The thought inside each one of us has an autonomy, a franchise, a freedom. It has a freedom of action, a freedom to happen.

The direct way of dealing with the thoughts is by not caring about them. What provides energy to a determined kind of thought that worries us, is this attention that we give to it.

It is as if you looked at the sky and saw it full of stars, and your eyes were kept by them, without realizing that the stars are appearing at the back, in this infinite space.

If you attention, your focus, your vision, is on the stars, you loose the space. Resting in your Natural State is to recognize yourself as this “space”, where the thoughts, feelings and emotions, as the stars, can appear.

Stop listening to what the mind says

Stop listening to what the mind says inside your head, so then, you stop listening to whatever the mind is staying through the other’s mouths. People on the outside are just as illusory as the person inside.

If the body is feverish, with any illness typical of his, this is his, it is not you. Because the mind says things there, it is not your enemy, as your body is not your enemy. If you identify yourself with the mind and get separated, believing to be able to change what it produces in your imagination, then you have an imaginary enemy. The actual sense of having someone present is the illusion of someone wanting to change something that doesn’t have repair.

The Zen says...

“You” won’t reach Illumination someday, therefore this is a very hopeless idea.

Where do you think this center called “me” is? This is just an idea. Nobody is doing this, because nobody can do it. Nevertheless, it simply happens.

You are entirely involved in this work, however, it does not happen because “you” do something. On the other hand, it also doesn’t happen if you don’t give your whole life completely to This.

It is needed that you disappear, die for This, but this is too strong and the mind doesn’t want you to hear it. The mind loves to be active and to be stimulated in some way, but here we are talking about a different direction.

The Zen says: “eat when you are hungry and drink when you are thirsty, in a life without past or future”. The mind doesn’t have anything to do with the Realization, because this is out of it. It is not an idealization that the “person” can reach.

You are here to Realize God

In this real work my Guru has showed me that it is needed a total surrender, a complete focus, a full energy directed to this, all our resources into this. You are here only for that: to Realize God.

All your time, all your health, all your money, all our emotion and all your energy, before put into an intellect, worried with the search for information, the exchange of opinions and judgments, all these have to turn to this Realization.

This structure of “being someone” is based on power, on what grants you power. So, everything in your life gives you power, power that, in the face of a living Guru, will have to fall.

Buda, Jesus, Ramana, and all others have pointed for the surrender of the power of “being someone”, based on the money, the health, or anything else. Where the structure of “being someone” is based, it will have to be exploded by the Grace’s dynamite.

You are not alone

Satsang is a work to go beyond the illusion, beyond these patterns that you carry. You want to stop with some things that jeopardize your self-image, that produce suffering, but what you consider a source of pleasure you don’t want to let go, to give up (and that is also ego). So here, in Satsang, you become aware of that.

Participant: This is very difficult…

M. Gualberto: It is difficult because you think you are “alone”, but it is not “you” doing this, it is letting the Presence do this.

When we use the expression “Presence”, or “Grace”, you don’t have any idea of the power of that, of what that is.

You will see that the patterns carried by the ego will fall in Satsang, but it is because it is not you doing this. You will see that there is something coming inside and doing it. I only ask you one thing to help you getting out of the ego: trust what I ask you, what I tell you, because there is something out of the visible field, the tactile field.

"You love the desire, not the desired"

Free adaptation from a comment that Master Gualberto has done on a Nietzsche’s phrase, made from a participant in Satsang.

“Never anyone has done anything entirely for others. Every love is self-love. Think about the ones you love: dig deeply and you will see that you don’t love them; you love the pleasant sensations provided by this love in you! You love the desire, not the desired.”
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

MG: This is evident. Nobody does anything for the other. There is no one and the other does not exist. There is only one mind working with itself, interested in itself, in its own movement of emptiness. This is the whole misery!

All suffering is on the illusion of being someone (for himself), being someone for “the other”. This search for “the other” is a need of the egoic mind, a miserable prison. This is what you call love, but love is only Love when there isn’t this “someone”, this “own self”. So then, there is not “the other” as well.

What I am saying is that everything you feel for the other is dependence, need, desire and fear. More and more fear. You will only know what is to Love the other when he does not exist anymore, when you do not exist. This is Love.

Love is not a verb. Love is the truth’s nature. If you want this real Love, accept to disappear, because you cannot have this. To accept this is to be nobody, to loose everything, really everything! It is to be you in your Real Nature: God.

The mind quickly says: “I want this very much, I want this Love!” But just make your part, which is to be in Satsang, and let each one do whatever they can, whatever they feel like doing. The one who shows God to God is God!

You do not have any conditions of deciding anything

The Guru is the Presence, the Grace, the Consciousness, the Truth in a human shape. In the ego, the mind, you are confused. The mind’s nature is confusion. The mind’s nature is the choice. Every choice, in the mind, and the choice itself, as a mind’s product, is born from this confusion.

You cannot, you do not have any conditions of deciding anything about this Liberation, this Realization. The way this work happens here, is about surrender, it is not about a choice. It is needed a total surrender. The work, all of it, is from the Grace! All the work happens from this Presence! This means that the Guru, the Master, which is the Presence in a shape, will work directly with the disciple and point him what he needs to see.

Relationships

In Satsang we are learning what kind of behavior we need to have when approaching truthfully in relationships, the proper way of having an encounter between us.

We have been emphasizing the importance of having this meeting without the separatist aspect of personalities, since personality is the synonym of belief, ideas, concepts and preferences; that are egocentric and personal states, serving the separatist purpose.

This type of behavior is not the more adequate in a relationship, where the main purpose is to find the unity, the oneness, the non-duality. But if we understand this limitation, we can get rid of it completely.

Ramana and Philosophy

It is those who are not learned that are saved rather than those whose ego has not yet subsided in spite of their learning. The unlearned are saved from the relentless grip of the devil of self-infatuation; they are saved from the malady of a myriad whirling thoughts and words; they are saved from running after wealth. It is from more than one evil that they are saved.

The intricate maze of philosophy of the various schools is said to clarify matters and to reveal the Truth, but in fact it creates confusion where none need exist.

To understand anything there must be the Self. The Self is obvious, so why not remain as the Self? What need to explain the non-self?

I was indeed fortunate that I never took to it (i.e. philosophy). Had I taken to it I would probably be nowhere; but my inherent tendencies led me directly to inquire ‘Who am I?’ How fortunate!

The mind’s circuit

QUESTION:  Is it possible a progressive path of non-identification and non-conditioning, that in a certain moment achieves the possibility of having a vision of what the mind is in its totality (non-identification with the mind)?

ANSWER: All and every movement is still a mind’s movement. All and any evolution or progress is still something inside the mind. You can know the mind profoundly, but you are still in the mind’s circuit. When I say “you”, I am referring to the mind, but in Satsang we are speaking of your Natural State, that, which is this Consciousness, and that is outside the mind. Every progress, evolution, growth, expansion, is something inside the mind. In Satsang there is a work happening, but it is a work in this mechanism (body-mind). And it is a direct work of this Consciousness, this Presence, this Grace. It is not a mind’s work.

QUESTION: I feel many conditionings falling in my life, and each and every moment I feel more confident in not having answers, in not knowing anything, but in a more sensitive way, intelligent. That gives me the impression that I am getting closer of this Natural State that you speak of…

ANSWER: This is very curious, a real trap my child. Come urgent to Satsang, your situation is severe!

Where is the joy?

There is always a great joy in the present moment, in the now. A joy that cannot be found, because joy is not something you search for. The search for the joy in this present moment is the withdraw of this same joy, because the mind “escapes”. The nature of the mind is always to search for something. You are here, now, and have never left, but the mind is never here; it does not find the now, because in the now it disappears.

When I speak about the mind, I am not talking about the intellect, I am talking about the mind. The mind is another name for this separatist sense of the now. Your mind is never here and now, because here and now there is no mind. In the present moment, the mind is always looking for memories, or for that that it idealizes. The present moment is just a means to the mind, an utilitarian thing, which it makes use of.

But in the now is the natural joy, without contrary, without opposite. The joy that has an opposite is still a mental joy, with a history backing it up. Peace is inherent to this Natural State that reveals itself, now, as your Real Nature. Realize or allow this to yourself: Peace, Happiness, Freedom, Love, Truth, which is a non-dual experience of the now, without the separation between the subject and the object, experimenter and experience.

This is our motion in Satsang, all we have here is the now.

The Reality and the Truth Turns out what we are

It's important to us to get here the real meaning of this meeting, we can not put THIS into words, that is the first thing that needs to be made clear to each of you present at these meetings, this meeting is not intended to make clear in words, because it is just impossible, the truth is not something that can be defined, explained, we cannot define what is the truth, we can not put into words what is the truth.

In Satsang we settle down in silence, notice that we do not unite ourselves, we do not get together, we do not get together to do something. We cannot get to the truth, to sit in silence is the only purpose, the purpose of settle down in silence. The truth and the reality shows, the reality and the truth are revealed, it reveals itself as what we are, it is revealed as our true nature, all knowledge is limited, every definition is something stuck inside of the measures of thought, within measures of experience, knowledge, and meeting with the silence of Satsang is the encounter with the truth that we are, when we are quiet, seated together, as now here.

So the purpose of Satsang is to settle down in silence and find the terms in this silence, this truth of our real nature, nothing to add, nothing to put on it, we cannot put anything on it, there is nothing that can be done, there is nothing that can be discovered, uncovered in the sense that was hidden and now revealed, comes the light, the truth is not like that, the truth is  something present,it is not the truth that reveals itself , it is not coming to the light, the illusion that falls apart, the illusion falls in this silence, in this meeting, in the purpose that is Satsang.

Notice that the mind always wants to do something, you guys already tried everything, and when you come to this room or come to Satsang for the first time, or repeating the same mistake you do it a second time or third, the mind always tells you it has something to be done, something to do, something to learn, so you've tried everything, you are now trying Satsang.

The mind is never satisfied, it will never be, it is the nature of mind to search, without the movement of intention, the motive, the interest, the desire, the ambition, the mind disappears. Nothing satisfies the mind and then when it arrives it says: - I am here to have a greater satisfaction, I want something deeper, I want an experience that will give me a greater meaning, that satisfies me, that makes me whole, that makes me happy! - That's the speech of the mind. The mind is a kind of hand that grabs the experience, trying to hold back the water, the experience is always something going on, and the mind is always trying to grab the experience to maintain its continuity, it fears to disappear, it fears death, it fears the end, it fears to undress all, that is why we move around this way, we are always stuck or grabbing something.

A striking feature is that the fear is inside us, because of the presence of the mind, so it is always looking to do something, buy something, make something, get something, catch something, then it will get something and then try to hold, as it tries to hold water in its hand, the more it tightens more it escapes through the fingers, this is the play of consciousness, the mind will never be satisfied.

The mind is searching for millenniums, inside this mechanism it has only a few decades, but it has the same behavior of all of us, across the so-called human being, all those which we call human beings move that way, this is the movement of mind.

When you are invited to Satsang you are invited to this moment, the moment of stop it, the moment of realization of your True Nature, it is very scary for the mind, for the mind that is the death of you, as you know. The mind is afraid of losing something, but actually it has never had anything at all, we are always imagining having the imagination that we have something in this great game of thought, whereas in fact, what the mind is doing all the time, is this thing, trying to hold back, giving a meaning and interpreting everything.

Any questions?

PARTICIPANT: Who led us through this wrong path?

MG: This is an interesting question, I will modify this question, I'll ask; "When did this happen?" - The question here is when it happened, not who led us ...

PARTICIPANT: When was there a break?

MG: We're only facing a game, when asked who and when there is not a who, nor is there a when. When we disconnect from the source? Never! It is always what it is, the source never fails to be the source, there is not someone disconnected from the source, the mind is living a misconception, the illusion of separateness, the illusion of an entity, an identity that moved away, which broke away from the source, which is disconnected from the source, and when the question involves time, is the notion of the mind, that same movement away at some point, that's  the “when” point. The illusion that someone breaks and the illusion of time, the mind, the illusion has no beginning, it can only has the end, but it does not start, the illusion never got to someone, but it can end for a mechanism for this , or that other one. That's when it can have an end, it may have an end in this mechanism, but in reality it has never started so it cannot end, it ends to that mechanism, then it ends to another mechanism, then to another one, this is curious because when it ends for this mechanism or another one, for this or for that one it becomes clear that it has never started, it was just a game, a big joke. "Cacau" ( the Master's wife) says that one day it has began ... And the question is for who and when? This who is not real in any time, “when”  it is not real in anytime either , because there is no time, we are dealing with a paradox, a joke. The truth is not hidden in time.

PARTICIPANT: Master the Paltalk's Satsang threatens mind? Here it seems that is exhausting and I'm almost sleeping... But when it ends, I become 100% awake ...

MG: That's exactly it, Satsang is dangerous even at Paltalk, the mind has no interest in it here, it also happens  personally, it  knocks a strange drowsiness, then when we do a break, everyone is super alert, speaking a lot, then we restart the Satsang and the sleep is back again, you may have woken up in the morning, having slept all night, there is nothing being treated here that interests the mind . (laughs).

Actually this is the great miracle that each of you are looking for, it is the miracle of the world without the person's life going on, without the sense of separation, the miracle that is God Himself, Grace itself, Life itself , Reality itself, this very direct and the Presence, it is an absolutely natural miracle, the sense of separation from the order, the order of the sense of separateness, the end of fear, the end of the search, that to the mind is something very, very scary, the miracle of birth, someone calls this awakening or illumination, I call it Natural State, it is the collapse of the sense of self, me, ego, belief and unbelief, what in Zen they call cutting firewood and carrying water, what they call in Zen of taking rice porridge and then washing the bowls. The question master; took his soup and the disciple says yes and the Master says, now go wash your bowls. Absolute simplicity, absolute naturalness, in everyday life, the great miracle, and a mind that tries to do this and never can, the mind of the seeker is always looking to capture it, within its schedule and cannot. It means life happening and no one doing anything, no one inside, nothing spiritual, nothing mystical, nothing philosophical, nothing religious, nothing miraculous, this is the great miracle.

Love is your natural state, peace is your natural state, the truth is your natural state, being is your natural state, God is your natural state, and there's nothing spiritual about it, nothing unusual. Are we together guys?

Here is nothing to fear, here death is presented as a concept  ...

PARTICIPANT: I still feel a lot the death of my daughter, I would feel it in the whole of eternal life but I still feel a great emptiness of separation, there is no peace yet.

MG: Enter deeply in  it, not separate from this pain, it is an experience going there in this mechanism, when you say I would feel it in the whole, are you trying to do anything with this feeling? Do you want to get rid of the pain, the question is: who wants to get rid of this pain, there's only pain, there isn´t someone in pain experience, there isn´t someone out there in this big empty experience, there's no one out there in the experience of separation, who establishes the presence of pain, let it comes to fore, let it show itself, let it reveal itself, just the pain, do not put an identity on it, do not put someone special who can not feel it there, do not put someone saying; "I would feel differently, I would get rid of that emptiness, I would get rid of this separation, like peace.

PARTICIPANT: It is present 24 hours a day.

MG: No, it is not present, you need to embrace it entirely for a minute, for a minute, it already does a great job there, what happens is that  the resistance is present 24 hours a day, welcome it just for a minute, but with whole, wholly, completely, without any thought, without any belief, no thought, no memory, only the welcome feeling, just a feeling, a memory disregard, disregard the mental images that arise at this time, but do it  only  for a minute, but with great intensity, that is the only way for you to honor this feeling, this feeling is the only way you could free your daughter, that is important that you experience in reality that your daughter is just a picture, with a background of pain, embrace the pain, welcome the pain, just for a minute, abandon all imagination about it, every imagination, every memory, every reminder, if the body shakes, this has no problem, if the tears arrive, taking the body, and if the emotion is so strong that throws the body on the floor, no problem, whatever happens in the level of the body, with no memory is something going on, it will not do you any harm, it's only a break in the pattern of memory. I want to see you this weekend here in São Paulo ok?

Well guys let's stop here, thanks for the meeting see you next meeting at Paltalk and our next personally meeting in São Paulo.

Namaste!
