Your whole heart into it

Hello guys, good night! Welcome all of you once again to this meeting, here, through Paltalk! These meetings are always a unique moment, a perfect time for celebration. That is how all these moments of Truth investigation are. We meet in Satsang for this investigation.

There is something much greater than someone doing this investigation, there is something here much bigger than that. Every time we meet, we treat about it. It seems that we investigate in order to get rid of something, to get rid of this illusion, this sense of a separate "self". So, to get rid of this connection with suffering, with despair, with the misery of the ego. This may appear to be like this, but in fact, this is only an idea. If this "separate self" is trying to accomplish something for itself, if it is trying to attain Self-realization, this liberation through investigation, it is not real. Whatever this "separate self", this "illusory self" seeks to do, it  will always further strengthen the sense of an author, of someone doing something, and there is the illusion. The investigation does not have this purpose, it is not someone's investigation, not a separate entity trying to do something.

The curious thing is that it is only this separate entity that wants to get rid of this sense of separation. This nuisance, this suffering, this misery creates it. So, what this separate entity - this illusion of a present entity creating the suffering, this own weight of the sense of separation, this misery always looks for something, even trying to get rid of all this, the so-called spiritual quest - is doing is keeping that veil, strengthening that veil. Every effort is in this direction. Every effort further strengthens this veil. The simplest thing is the most difficult for this illusion of the self, the me, the person, because the simplest thing is to stop with any searching, stop with all this movement trying to find it.

The ego has been trying to find this Happiness, this Peace, this Freedom. It tried in worldly things, now it is trying on so-called spiritual things. It tried materialism and is now trying to spiritualism or spirituality. All this search movement that the egoic mind has, all this sense of someone present in the pursuit of happiness, it is hiding its own Happiness; the search for peace is hiding Peace itself; the search for freedom is hiding Freedom.

Sooner or later you will have to give up the search, will have to give up all the effort in ego to realize the end of the ego. This relentless pursuit through spiritual practices, as well as readings of books and spirituality studies, only further away this Truth - the Truth of your Essential Nature, your Real Nature. Spiritual practices, the study of spirituality, the quest for spirituality has many ramifications. There are searches, practices and readings for all tastes. This goes from religious doctrines to the study of Advaita. And all this is just a great illusion - this illusion of searching. The very "self", that very sense of separation strengthens, becoming more and more refined, more purified, more spiritual.

Some of you, here in this room, have experienced it, and others are still going through, are not yet tired of spirituality. Although tired of the pursuit of material achievements, you are now seeking for spiritual achievements. None of this is real. Before, used to be a materialistic “self” there, now there is a spiritualistic “self” instead. There was a "self" there that knew nothing about spirituality, now there is a "self" there that knows a lot about spirituality, even able to teach it, from so many books, so many lectures, so many teachings he got.

And I'm repeating this here: this attempting of the “self” to accomplish something by itself will strengthen it. Either in worldly life or in spiritual life. This is the very veil that hides the reality of the ever present Truth, which cannot flourish, bloom, manifest. Sooner or later you have to get rid of all this, of all your spirituality. You are going to have to get rid of the own pursuit of the end of suffering by spiritual practices, because in your deep, you want to replace this misery, this pain, this suffering for something spiritual, and this is still the veil that covers this Reality, this Truth , this Grace of true Happiness, of true Love, God's Present Truth, of Present Wisdom.

It sounds very strange, doesn’t it?

Ego is tireless in its quest. And here it is about the end of the search, complete emptying of all the content, both material and spiritual. You're always carrying a new practice, a new book, a new instruction, believing that any new idea will bring you closer to that, but you do not know what it is, the mind does not know what it is. This is beyond your knowledge, beyond the mind. This is present when you are not, when the mind is not, when the search or this seek to get rid of suffering is not.

There is no suffering only when there is no illusion, but not when you try to accomplish it by seeking the end of suffering. Only by the end of this illusion means the end of suffering, not by the search of the end of suffering. There is only Happiness when there is the end of this illusion - the illusion of finding Happiness in materialism or spiritualism. Happiness is the Nature of Truth, It is when there is no search - neither the search for the end of suffering nor the pursuit of happiness. This is the very veil that covers this Truth from the absence of suffering, the Real Happiness.

Are you following this?

I'm saying that you cannot achieve this, you're just messing up. All your effort is just to mess up. This has to be under the care of the Grace, under the care of God, under the care of this Presence. This presence is the Guru, is the Consciousness, God, is the Truth. In other words, while this "separate self" is being considered real, it is inevitable that it will keep trying to get rid of suffering, trying to find happiness, that it keeps trying to get rid of the mind. The mind trying to get rid of itself, the "self" trying to get rid of the "self" ... can you notice the trick? Unhappiness trying to find happiness, conflict trying to find peace. All that the conflict does is to produce more conflict, all that unhappiness does is to produce more misery, all that the mind does is within the very mind, it is only strengthening the mind itself. My Guru, Ramana, my Master, used to say that this is like the thief dressed as a policeman trying to arrest the thief.

Perhaps, at this point of the meeting, you may ask: So, what to do?

I can assure you that there is a moment when you realize, clearly, by investigation, that you are going in circles. This moment can be seen, at first, as hopeless. But, in fact, this is your big chance to give up, to stop this effort. This effort is this illusion trying to get rid of the illusion, it is the "I" trying to get rid of the "I", it is the mind trying to get rid of the mind. At this moment, the surrender, the renunciation happens . That's when the Grace can take over, the Presence can take over, God can take over, the Guru can take over.

That is the moment when you realize the importance of what has all importance. God is that only thing that matters! The Guru is this one thing, the Truth, the Presence of Grace! At this point, at this stage, at this moment, suffering can no longer maintain itself, the illusion of separateness can no longer keep itself, the ego can no longer sustain itself - the ego in its search, in its pursuit ... Then, immediately, a window is opened. Then, this window loses importance, and a large door is opened, much higher than that window. It is a door with two sides and, in pairs, they are opened. This is a call of God, Grace, of this Presence. So,  you stop everything, you give up, you do not resist, you surrender. Then, the real work, for the first time, begins to happen, because you are no longer there, because there is this willingness to try to do this alone, through your skills, techniques, capabilities ...

Participant: Master, at the final minutes, could you clarify us what Self-inquiring is?

Master: Self-inquiry means, basically, to doubt from yourself, to completely doubt from absolutely any power or skill/ability you have – which actually is only the movement of the mind itself. All power or ability/capability is still the ego, from the own egoic mind. So, the expression "Who Am I" or "What am I" is not a question to find an answer. It is an exclamation, not a question. A waiver of exclamation, of no resistance. It means being quiet, effortlessly, without any movement, a complete surrender to this Grace, this Presence, this Truth that is the Self. I mean your Real Nature, your Divine Nature. The Presence of this Grace makes it blooms, awakens. This Self-inquiry means your whole heart into This, your whole life into that exclamation! It is not a mere intellectual question, verbal, it is not a formula that is repeated like a mantra ...

The difficulty that you feel here, at this moment, is that you do expect me to give you a formula, that I do exactly what the books are doing to you, to you - they are giving  formulas.

Truth is something very alive, very real. What is not alive might be found at some point; what is alive is moving ... A body wrapped in swaddling is a mummy, and you can find it, you find that body wrapped in swaddling. Truth is not a coiled body in bands. Truth is not wrapped in words, in knowledge, in practices, experiences, techniques ... Truth is not a wrapped body with this whole thing. Truth is something alive! Truth is alive, you realize it, it is your True Nature. That's your Real Nature, which is beyond mind, beyond the known, beyond knowledge, words, spiritual practices, techniques ...

Okay, guys! Let’s stay here! Therefore, the invitation continues: personally, we can investigate this better, ok!?

Namaste!

What is upadesa and what is Advaita?

In India, they call upadesa the teaching, the instruction of the Guru. You cannot learn what the Guru is showing, but you can be taught about what He is dealing with. The practice of upadesa is sadhana, which is the practice that the Guru gives to you. You have heard me saying many times that there is no practice, because it is something that becomes mechanical. It is like learning - it becomes mechanical, merely verbal. Some have learned these words, they can write and talk about it, but do not have the practice. The practice, when it is not an experience, is a mechanical thing, it is like something learned, it is not real. It is like that thing you do because you have learned and practiced, it is not natural.

In spirituality, you live the practice because you learn it, but it is not natural. When you are taught, because you get the upadesa from the Guru and put into practice, such practice is experiential, but you receive it as a teaching, not as a learning.

It may seem synonymous, but here they cannot be placed as synonyms. I received from my Guru the upadesa and put the teaching of Silence into practice. This teaching, which came from Silence, it gave me the tips about what I needed to loose, in practice.

So, I had to cut loose the self-image, the choices, the determination of doing or not doing, the decision; I had to loose my will, surrender my will to a willingness greater than mine, greater than that "me". I had to surrender this will to God’s Will, Divine Will. Thus, either I heard the mind itself or I heard the Guru's teaching. If you take on this teaching, that’s upadesa, that’s sadhana.

You can dismiss the learning of these words. In fact, if you do not do so, you will learn these words and they will be used for you such as to meow or to bark. Learn Advaita is equal learning to meow or to bark. What is it you gonna do with that? The practice of the teaching given by the Guru, this upadesa, it brings the experience of Self-realization, and that Self-realization is Advaita, that is non-duality, non-separateness.

So, what do I deal with you every day? Advaita. I deal about Advaita, but I am not teaching Advaita, because my teaching is upadesa. I cannot teach Advaita. Advaita is non-duality, how can I teach this? You can follow my teaching and, in practice, discover what Advaita is. That would be a direct experience of yours, but repeating words of "advaita" is not Advaita.

What do I have not been telling you? What haven’t I been sharing with you, shown to you, in this teaching?

You do not reach Advaita, the non-duality, in a direct way; It is always in an indirect way. Advaita is the Natural State of non-dualism, non-separateness. You do not reach it verbally, theoretically, there is no teaching that can give you that.
It is like trying to give you the Presence, the Self, Consciousness. You cannot reach This; then, we must have a different approach, discarding what it is not This, what is not Advaita. Duality is not Advaita.

The separation between you and the other, created by thought, based on that image of "I am one and you are other", that is dualism. You discard that and, then, you realize the Advaita, your state of non-dualism. So, my work is all indirect, it is for you to discard the duality in there, the sense of separation, looking and seeing where it appears.

I cannot give you the sense of non-separation, the absence of the sense of separation - not verbally at least - but I can show you what This is not. This is not, for example, this behavior based on images, this ugly thing the ego does.

This is dualism, duality. It is all me and God, me and the other, me and the world, me and the Guru, me and the fellow of Sangha, me, the Sangha, the Guru and God.

There is me, the Sangha, there is the Guru and there is God... and there is the world, my husband, my wife, my daughter, my son who died, who I do not want to forget, cannot forget ...

That is not what Advaita is, that is pure dualism, ego, sense of separateness. Such illusion I can investigate with you, and once you see it, you discard it, and when you discard it, the end of duality becomes clear.

So, the teaching, the upadesa, has this purpose. This teaching is experiential and It awakens! It is in this sense that the Guru does not come to teach, He comes for awakening, because the Guru is not a teacher. You awakens for the non-dual reality of your Natural State; then, the Sage, the spiritual knowledge, awakes!

Jnana, the knowledge in itself, is what we would call the spiritual knowledge; It is the pure knowledge. Pure knowledge is Consciousness, is Presence, Perception, it is the non-dual state of Being, which is Wisdom, which is Jnana, pure understanding, Silence of non-duality, non-separateness, absence of the "I", absence of the world, absence of God. That is meditation!

Some might get completely crazy, mad, while listening to this. That is Satsang! When I say Satsang, I mean Meditation, and Meditation is Consciousness, Consciousness is Presence, Presence is Self, Self is the Natural State, which is pure perception, which is God. They get mad when listening to this, but that is it. Satsang is you in your Natural State: Samadhi, Consciousness, Presence, Self, Truth, Freedom, non-dualism.

This cannot be learned, but you can live It in your Natural State; this is you in your Natural State. What happen when the fire approaches an object, or an object approaches the fire? What prevails? What remains? Will the fire be changed? Will it be extinguished? Will it lose heat, luminosity?

But, what will happen to the object? The object will turn into fire! That's the answer! The object is not extinguished, it turns into fire! It changes shape, but it is in the fire, it is now fire.

You cannot separate the object from the fire, because there is no object separated from the fire, but you cannot deny the existence of the object.

In nature it is like that, nothing is lost. The fire is this Consciousness. What is the ego in the Consciousness? Can you take that object and separate it from the fire? Will it be useful for something? No! Will the ego be useful for something? Is the object, separated from the fire, real? Is the ego, separated from the Consciousness, real?

Then what is it real? Consciousness. What is real? The fire. Your Natural State is Consciousness and in It there is no ego. You cannot separate the ego from your Natural State, as you cannot separate the object from the fire. What prevails, what remains, what keeps unchanged is, always, your Real Nature.

Who over there get still offended, upset, hurt, sorrowed, sad, worried, annoyed, afraid? Who there is real? What is your name? What is your history? When you were born? What is the name of your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents? Which country you were born? What is the government system of your country?

That is the history - a history being told with a name, with a nationality, since the birth to the death. You know what you are not. You know that you are not that name, are not that history, are not parents, that you do not have any friends. A friend becomes your enemy. Thus, you already know that this is not (the non-duality), and; therefore, you will no longer have crisis of insomnia, of “annoyance”.

You have got to live that, and living it is upadesa, is the teaching of the Guru. The Guru is teaching you to live It, but if you do not live it, you do not do the homework; If you do not do the homework, it is because you do not want anything with the Teacher and his classes. You have to assume now being a student, to assume going into this practice you get as teaching, as upadesa. You may know, but if you do not work it, you do not truly know.

What veil is this that hides this Happiness, this Freedom, this Enlightenment, this Self-realization?

You are all welcome to one more meeting, here on Paltalk.

Here, we have investigated this: to what extent does anything need to be done and how does this need to be done? That is what we investigate in Satsang. It seems that, while there is this identification with this apparent individual, with this apparent person, there will be no choice. So what is the meaning of the search? What does this search mean?

Truth is very paradoxical. The search is not real and, however, if there is no purpose of surrendering, of working, this realization also does not happen. You cannot produce it, but at the same time you cannot stand idly by waiting for this happen accidentally as a lightning falling on top of your head and bringing this illumination, this awakening. Here is where many get lost by choosing a side and despising the other. How to solve this?

What I have perceived is that absurd simplification. Someone chooses one of these sides and talks about it, discusses about it, deals with it, but does not realize that fell into a trap. To say that no work is necessary is a trap. To say that the very effort and willpower will determine this realization is also a trap. That is the difficulty.

What veil is this that hides this Happiness, this Freedom, this Enlightenment, this Self-realization? What veil is this? In my view, the very search, the effort itself, the own personal will, using the very methods that the person knows, and that it would use in any other enterprise to achieve this, is the veil that hides it. This does not come by personal effort, by personal will, by personal work... This Self-realization, this Enlightenment, Awakening, Happiness dawns, blossoms, arises, appears, takes Its place by an action of Grace. We are saying that this happens to you, you do not produce this.

You have just said that, while I was talking about this immutability something happened there. You became aware of this clearly. So, note that it is not a personal effort, it is not a personal work; you made no effort, no work; you are just here, now, at this moment, and this Presence was able to make this possible. This Presence is Consciousness, It is Grace. This is something that has been given to you, but nevertheless, you had to be here, you had to have entered the room, you had to be willing to listen, to feel, to understand.

There is something present in this room, greater than the speech, which is the very power of the Grace. It is this that makes the work be possible, beyond your efforts, your willpower, your determination. In this contact with a living Master, it becomes possible. In this contact with the power of this Presence, it becomes possible. But that is very subtle, it is a very thin line: how far can you go by making it possible, and to what extent are you the very impediment...

I have talked a lot about the importance of surrender - it helps a lot. Surrender is the direct path, is devotion, is rendition, it is the quitting of someone to accomplish this, someone to do it. This means also, at the same time, an opening, sensitivity, a full and complete vulnerability. Then, it descends on you, or rather, it comes from within, it arises from the inside, sweeping completely the egoic mind, the sense of separation, the sense of the I.

So, to what extent is there something to do? To what extent there is nothing that can be done? That is the question! If you do something, you disturb. If you do not do, you disturb even more. If you apply your will and determination, you disturb. If you do not apply full will and determination, you disturb even more.

I am saying that if you do not dispose yourself, if you do not open yourself up, if you do not surrender, if you do not allow yourself (because of the resistance of the mind entirely concerned with the egoic interests), if you remain like that, this Self-realization is not possible, at least not now. You need to be burning for it, putting your entire life on it, applying your heart fully on it.

You need to wake up with this in the morning, spend the day with it, sleep with it at night, and the next day, wake up with it again in the morning, spend the day with it and sleep with it. On the third day, you do it different: you wake up with it, spend the day with it and sleep with it again. On the fourth day you repeat the first; on the fifth day, you repeat the second; on the sixth day, you repeat the third or fourth... (laughs)

In this sense, it is essential to be in Satsang in person, within a “sangha”, getting “upadesa”, direction, teaching. They are not information about it, they are direct warning on how not being confused, how not getting lost, how not being identified again in this egoic world, in this mental world. This is the necessity of Grace, it is the necessity of the Guru, it is the necessity of the One who is beyond duality. He no longer loses himself; he has already been through this whole process and knows it directly, not intellectually, but directly; not theoretically, but directly.
Participant: How do I remain in my real nature, permanently, if the mind is agitated?

Master Gualberto: The mind is agitated because of these “vassanas” - word used in Yoga in India – i.e., these latent tendency of the mind, its patterns of desires, choice, motive, hidden intention. This must end! If this does not end, the mind remains always stirring, going back to the same and old patterns.

That is why the practice of meditation does not work. No technique to quiet or silence the mind is going to work. Self-realization is not the stillness of the mind, it is not the silent mind. Self-realization is the end of duality, it is the end of the sense of separation, it is the end of the sense of "I" within the experience, including the experience of thinking. Thought is only an experience, as well as emotion, or sensation, or feeling. When there is no duality, when there is not a sense of  "I" within the experience, there is no conflict and what is present is your Real Nature.

Consciousness is not separate from the experience of thinking, of emotion, of sensation or of feeling. But the Consciousness in that experience, out of duality, is not lost, it is not confused, it does not identify with this anymore. This is something that many of you have understood in a completely wrong way. I have noticed this: many of you speak about this silence of the mind as if it were your own realization. Realization is not the silence of the mind; Realization is the end of the sense of an identity in this experiment of the thought. This is another completely different thing.

Participant: Then, how to eliminate this sense of an ”I”?

Master Gualberto: This answer is directly related to a work. There is no definitive answer to that, a verbal answer, a sentence or two, or ten.  In Satsang, yes, there is an answer to that! In Satsang in person, in front of a living Master signaling you, showing you, making you realize these patterns, these trends of mind, these ingrained habits of mind... His signalization, the way of making you directly perceive all this is part of the work in personal meetings. Then, you have an answer that means the elimination of this sense of  an "I". But this is not possible with eyes closed, chanting mantra, or quieting the mind for a moment. You can meditate this way a thousand years. Eyes closed, the mind is silent; after the meditation ends, you are back!
I never practiced meditation; my whole practice was devotional, but no meditation. The practice of devotion is the practice of surrender to the feet of this living Presence, which is this Consciousness, which is this Grace. My experience is this: The look of the Guru! Look at His eyes was enough, listen to His Silence in my heart was enough, it already contained all the teaching, all upadesa, all direction. This real attention in the present is that Consciousness always present in that surrender. This Presence, which is this Consciousness there, does all the work. You need to have your heart turned to it intensely, your whole heart into it. You need to be willing to die, to give everything for that. You must be burning for it.

Participant: Are there any plans to Satsangs in Minas Gerais? For in      Campos do Jordao is very cold at this time of the year.

Master Gualberto: If you are burning for this, you will not feel cold at all in Campos do Jordao. If you are not burning so, nothing is going to work. These meetings do not have to go to you; you have to go to these meetings. It is not the Guru who has to go to you; it is you that have to come to the Guru. It is not him who has to go to Minas Gerais; you have to come to Campos do Jordao. He can be on Himalayan Mountain top, there on the snowy peak, but you have to meet Him there. If you are burning for this, you are not going to freeze, but realize God, realize the Truth about yourself. Now, if you are not burning for this, anything will be a great excuse - heat, cold, lack of money, lack of time...

Participant #two: Master, a year ago I lost my job, I cannot get another one, I am depressed. Two weeks ago I met you Master, I watch your videos, but it is difficult to understand and quiet the mind, my mind screams 24 hours a day.

Master Gualberto: Leave this thing of silencing the mind behind, girl! Now here, just listen to my speech, put your heart into it. When watching my videos, look at me, no longer look at my speech, look at my Silence, look at Me and you will realize that I will be looking at You. In fact, my speech carries that Silence that is able to do an extraordinary work there. Work that you cannot do! It is not something ordinary, so I said extraordinary! It is not in this speech, it is in this Silence; It is not in my gestures on the video, it is at this look.

You cannot approach this work to get rid of depression or trauma or emotional problem. There are many therapists to help you! I have no interest in that. My interest is to show you That that You are! You are not the body, you are not the mind! So neither the heat nor cold, or depression, or fear, or anxiety or other negative mental response can prevent you from realizing What You are, your Real Nature.

I am here for those who are willing to do this and not for those who feel too hot or too cold. Without being willing to go beyond that sense of a separate "I", this illusion of being someone, it does not help to ask how to eliminate this sense of "I". You need to be willing to surrender that sense of "I" who is afraid of cold or afraid of heat, or that "I" who feels anxious or depressed or any of these states that the "I" know.

All of you here need to pay attention to it: This long-distance dating does not make the child born, it does not get anyone pregnant! This child needs to be born, and by here it cannot. Is that clear?

OK, So, let us stop here! Namaste!
